Justice for the Poor

Justice Issues
Hope for Peace and Justice Web site  http://www.h4pj.org/issues/poor.php

The same quality of justice for the poor as for the rich. It is a moral issue when our nation's legal system provides the poor an inferior level of justice than that received by the wealthy. The death penalty has proven to be no deterrent to crime. Still, most people support it, even though we know innocent people are sentenced to death every day. As one of the only civilized countries in the world still practicing the death penalty, the U.S. leads the world in executions, along with such countries as China, Iran and Vietnam. What does that say about us as a people? State-sponsored violence is a brutal, immoral example to the world. Hope for Peace & Justice is standing up as an advocate for mercy and compassion.

We give voice to values such as:

The creation of a culture of peace rather than war.
The value of people over profits.
Equal rights for all people, not just the majority.
The protection of the environment before the corporate bottom line.
Healthcare as a civil right for all, not just for the wealthy.
The same quality of justice for the poor as for the rich.
We encourage you to do something to promote peace and justice in the world. Whether you are a person of faith or someone who has no professed religious or spiritual faith, it is important for you to work to overcome cynicism and complacency and take personal responsibility for making peace and doing justice.

We would love for you to get involved with Hope for Peace & Justice as a partner in this great work.  -- Michael Piazza
