Reflections on A Sacred Season of Peace-Making  -- Joan Haan
Part 4 of 4

Celebration
I would like to say that Mondays of the Interfaith Series were full of that peace “that passes understanding” (Philippians 4:7) but that wasn’t true for me. I felt the weight of this series, the enormous possibility of what could happen if deep and meaningful conversation happened; I wanted to do it right. .  .and keep my interfaith ignorance at bay! And there was this pride of success, of measuring up to the expectations of friends and colleagues. At the same time I knew the success of the event wasn’t about me, about any of us, really. It was, Be Still and Know That I AM (Psalm 46:5). Driving to the Monday event my prayer was, “Fill this space with your presence! Speak through us!”

Interfaith work is heart work (and yes, hard work as well); to be seen and see others more clearly. To be love, which in our religious tradition is agape—that transcendent universal divine love, of loving your neighbor as yourself; acknowledging the “Circle of Truths[3]” that is each of us. When I am at my best, prepared and open, I am present to experience “glory.” This is what I most celebrate about this series, what brought me the most joy and “peace that passes understanding.”

Namaste and love to those of my Community-Making, past, present and future, who mirror and journey with me in A Sacred Season of Peace-Making!
